Hill scribes condemn SP`s act

IMPHAL, April 1: The Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union has said that the union has noted and is deeply saddened by the recent spate of violence against the journalist community by law enforcement agencies and different organizations that have taken place in Manipur.

A press release of the union said that the physical assault, forcible confiscation of media equipment and deletion of important photographs of Ukhrul based journalists who were covering the peace rally organized by students inside the premises of Mini Secretariat, Ukhrul at 11:30 am on March 29, 2014 by the police under S Selvan, Superintendent of Police, Ukhrul, the Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union (MHJU) condemned the barbaric act of the security personnel in the strongest term.

It has also urged every right thinking individuals to join hands in fighting against the assault of journalists in the soil of Manipur.

“We, the MHJU, also express our earnest solidarity to the demands and stand points of the Ukhrul District Journalists Association (UDJA) who are also members of the MHJU while demanding appropriate punitive action against the erring police personnel(s) concerned.”

The union further urged the concerned authorities to take necessary actions at the earliest possible time.
