IMPHAL, April 10: Chief minister, Okram Ibobi Singh has vehemently condemned the bomb attack on the life of deputy speaker, Preshow Shimary yesterday.
The chief minister today personally visited deputy speaker Preshow Shimary at his residence at Nagaram.
After the meeting, Ibobi told media persons that the attack is not only on the dy speaker’s life but also an attack on the democratic principal of the country.
He said that in a democratic country there is no place for violence. Violence will only increase the miseries of the people.
He said that the outcome of the Lok Sabha election will prove the futility of the gun culture in a democratic society.
Ibobi further said that even as the state government is not part of the peace talk with the NSCN-IM and the centre government, it will not remain a silent spectator to the violence and crime perpetrated by the NSCN-IM cadres.
It may be recalled that deputy speaker Preshow Shimary escaped unhurt when miscreants exploded a power bomb at Leingangching area in Litan Sareikhong of Ukhrul district while he was returning to Imphal from Ukhrul.
His vehicle was partially damaged due to the attack.
The attack was carried out by suspected hill based militant outfit.
This is the second attack on the life of the deputy speaker, the first attack was carried out on April 30 last year near Kuivakazo Village under Ukhrul district.
Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students Union Manipur has vehemently condemned the life attempt on Chingai AC MLA and deputy speaker MK Preshow Shimray for the second time at MATA farm under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul District on April 9, 2014, while the MLA was returning from his native Poi village after casting his vote, said a press release of the student body.
It is an anathema to all the peace lover that such a cowardly act should be carried out in a democratic state like Manipur, it said.
“The escalating violence, lawlessness, bombing and gun culture is condemnable by all right thinking citizens.”
The All Tribal Students Union Manipur is shocked to learn that life attempt be made on a dynamic young leader time and again as if has done something against the law of the land, it continued.
The ATSUM therefore demands the perpetrators to own up the assassination bid at the earliest.
This Wanton display and reckless action is unbecoming when there is a concerted movement to usher in peace and tranquillity in the region, it said. The union once again gives this clarion call to one and all irrespective of community or ethnicity to give peace a chance and stop abetting to carry out anti-social activities and also shun from occurrence of bloodshed in the days to come, the statement said.
The life attempt on MK Preshow Shimray, deputy speaker, Manipur on April 9 at Litan, Ukhrul district by unidentified personnel has been strongly condemned by the JesusGospel Ministry, North East India and the 45-Chingai (ST) Block Congress Committee, Ukhrul district. It is a very shameful act against Christianity, Jesus Gospel Ministry said in a press release.
The BCC, 45-Chingai said that the perpetrators deserve condemnation.
