Further judicial remand for accused in minor rape case

IMPHAL, May 21: Ngaopuni, accused in the rape case of a 13 year old on April 17 at Koirengei Hills has been remanded to further judicial custody till June 4 today by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East.

Accused Ngaopuni, a resident of Paomei Colony was brought from Sajiwa Central jail for his routine appearance.

Meanwhile, a large number of womenfolk, JAC members and kin of the victim had gathered around the Imphal Cheirap Court complex waiting for the accused.

However, considering the volatile situation at the court complex, the security personnel didn’t bring out the accused from the UT van, instead a Jail police official made an appearance before the court and after taking the due permission.

The accused was further remanded to judicial custody for 15 more days.
