Rape accused remanded to judicial custody till 18 July

IMPHAL June 4: The 65-year-old accused, Ngaopuni, in the rape case of minor girl has been produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Imphal west and was further remanded to judicial custody till 18 July. The accused was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate under tight security from the Sajiwa central jail. He is under judicial custody from some months in relation with the rape of a minor. After producing the accused before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West by the jail authorities, Ngaopuni has been further remanded in judicial custody till 18 July.

Ngaopuni who hails from Paomei Colony, Sangakpam was arrested by the police from Senapati a day after the locals erupted against the rape of a 13-year-girl during the Lok Sabha polls. The accused allegedly took the minor with him under the guise for proxy voting and raped her at Chingmeirong.

A man called Tilak Paubel of Kanglatongbi died in police firing while trying to control angry protestors who erupted and blocked the national highway demanding justice and the arrest of accused.
