RIMS nurses suspended

IMPHAL, June 13 (NNN): Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the premier government hospital in Manipur has almost paralysed today on the second day of the nurses cease work agitation. The agitating nurses alleged that the appointment of the nursing superintendent has flouted the seniority list.

The nurses are on indefinite cease work agitation since Thursday demandiong for the review of the appointment of RIMS Nursing Superintendent. Even as the nurses are on strike RIMS director Dr S Sekharjit has suspended five leaders of the RIMS Nurses Association Lamphelpat (RNAL) under which organisation the agitation is going on.

In a sit-in protest held today, secretary of the RNAL Th Meena told reporters that they will continue their cease work strike as long as their demands are not fulfilled. Th Meena also appealed the public to bear the inconveniences.

Meanwhile, patients at RIMS are furious while talking to the reporters today who came to oversee the situation. The RIMS authority has hired 22 contract nurses for attending the serious patients at RIMS but this small number of the nurses are too herculean a task to deal. The patients are also seen expressing their anger at the doctors and to those nurses engaging on strike. “Who will be held responsible if the patients die in want of urgent medical attention?” asked on patient.
