Sanjengthong body lauds bridge diversion decision

IMPHAL, June 11: The Sanjenthong Bridge Diversion Demand Committee has in a press meet lauded the Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh and his Transport minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh for taking necessary steps to construct a diversion bridge as an alternative for the now closed Sanjenthong Bridge.

It said, the construction of the diversion bridge is being arranged at Mahabali which will meet NH 39 at Hicham Yaicham Pat point.

The chairman of the Committee L Bijoy Singh during the press meet further expressed that SBDDC has earlier demanded the construction of the diversion bridge north of the existing Sanjenthong Bridge considering the convenience of the general people.

He also opined that the government Manipur lacks the consideration of the general masses while taking major decisions. This is evident in the decision of the Sanjenthong Bridge closure which makes all sorts of inconveniences to the general public.

The chairman also informed the media persons that they have initiated for stationing some Fire Tenders inside the office complex of SP Imphal East district as timely response to any fire incident in the district could not be possible due to closure of Sanjenthong Bridge and accordingly the DC of the Imphal East district has asked the director of Manipur Fire Services.

In this regard, the SBDDC chairman has requested the director of the Manipur Fire Services to do the needful in the interest of the public of the district.
