Special contractor’s tin roof damaged in blast attack

IMPHAL June 4: Unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade which exploded on a tin roof extension of the residence of a special contractor at Nagaram E block under Lamphel Police station Imphal West at around 7.05 pm. However, no one was injured in the explosion.

According to special contractor V S Vereiyo, 65, son of V S Wungam of New Tousom presently residing in Nagaram E Block, all the members of his family were inside the residence when they heard the sound of a big explosion and come out of the tin roof extension of the house.

“We found that the roof was damaged in the blast and suspect the bomb to have been hurled from outside the residence. I am a special contractor of the Public works department and works on National Rural Employee Guarantee Scheme,” he said.

He added that he didn’t receive any kind of monetary demand or threat from any underground outfit and was shocked that the blast happened at his residence.

Soon after the blast, a team of Imphal West police team lead by Additional SP (operation) Imphal West K Meghachandra , DSP (commando) Imphal West Krishnatombi and Officer-In-Charge P Sanjoy arrived at the spot and look after the site of the blast.

Police has registered a case against the incident.
