IMPHAL, July 25: In an unfortunate incident, an additional SP tried to snatch away the camera of a media person who was trying to cover police action during the student agitation inside the DM College campus.
Getting information that the students were agitating at Thangmeiband College gate, media persons had arrived at the scene to cover the incident.
Correspondent of DY 365, a Guwahati based electronic media, O Luwang alias Nanao had also arrived at the scene, however, additional SP Y Victoria snatch his camera.
Narrating his ordeal to other media persons present there, he said the police officer had told him to shut off as soon as snatching his camera giving him no room to clarify.
It may be mentioned that the police have been facing much censure from all quarters over their handling of the students’ agitations over ILP.
Later in the evening today, AMWJU members met with the deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio in his office chamber regarding the case.
The deputy Chief Minister told the AMWJU delegate that the incident was unfortunate and such action will not be repeated in the future.
He further said that he had intimated the Director General of Police on the issue.
