IMPHAL, Aug 2: The Banian Repertory Theatre has stated that the play ‘Oppressed People’ directed by MC Thoiba based on Pukhrambam Shamu’s ‘Thamaikhraba Ee’ has been invited in the 9th Abhinaya National Theatre Festival 2014 to be held at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad from August 11 to 14.
According to a release from the play’s director , the play depicted the impact of neo-colonialism and dominance of military power that brought sufferings to innocent people. It exposed social maladies like rape and killing of innocent people that had ultimately resulted in de-population. The Sangai, the endangered animal of Manipur has been used as the symbol of the oppressed people in the play, it said.
