Manipuri Sahitya is now quite developed, says B Jayentakumar

IMPHAL, September 3: Sahitya is the mirror of society and contributes in the development of societies and State, claimed Manipur Sahitya Parishad’s ex-president B Jayentakumar in his presidential address today at the book launch of “Nakenthada Basanta” written by Art and Culture (retd) director Kh Sorojini Devi. The book launch was held at the quarters of Kakching MLA Y Surchandra in Babupara.

Sahitya has occupied a high place in every society and it is the means to express what a person sees and observes in his life through writing, he said.

Jayentakumar emphasised that if Sahitya fails to show the real image of a society and the reader doesn’t get any insights then it cannot be termed as Sahitya.

Asserting that in the new era of Manipuri Sahitya, the role of women writers is becoming more important, he said, Manipuri Sahitya is now quite well developed.

Education minister M Okendro said in his speech as the chief guest that Kh Sorojini Devi, the writer, is now a retired government employee but her contributions to the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad is encouraging.

Professor Aruna Nahakpam of Manipur University attended the book launch as a guest of honor while many lovers of Manipuri Sahitya and writers also attended the book launch.
