IMPHAL, January 21: The Lilong Political Unified Link (LPUL) has announced an indefinite general strike in Thoubal district starting from January 23 against the authorities`™ negligence of the deplorable Lilong to Waithou road stretch.

Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, chief advisor MA Zabbar said the State government has left the deplorable road stretch from Lilong to Waithou unattended which has resulted in several road accidents.

He said the narrow road needs to be widened up and repaired at the earliest to avoid more unwanted road mishaps.

Many appeals have been already made to the government to repair the 4 km long road stretch, which have all remained unanswered, he complained.

Since the government has neglected the appeals, the organisation has decided to come up with more stringent agitations and start by imposing the general strike in the district.

However, religious activities and emergency services will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, he said.
