Union Minister to monitor State Social Welfare dept`s projects of last 10 years

IMPHAL, January 19: Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Menaka Gandhi has assured to monitor and evaluate the schemes taken up in the State for the last 10 years by the Social Welfare department which include the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in the near future.

According to sources, a BJP Manipur Pradesh team met the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Menaka Gandhi today in her office at the Sastri Bhawan, New Delhi. The BJP delegates led by State president Th Chaoba and general secretary (Administration) M Asnikumar talked with the Minister for 35 minutes.

During the meeting, Menaka Gandhi is reported to have assured she would visit Manipur after the budget session of the Parliament commencing from the last week of February. She also assured to inspect the condition of the Social Welfare department during her visit. She will monitor and evaluate the projects taken up under the Social Welfare department for the last 10 years.

A high level committee of the Union Ministry will monitor and evaluate all the projects. If the committee finds anyone guilty during the investigation, the minister promised to take appropriate actions against those found guilty. Menaka Gandhi assured that there will be no room for excuses by any individual, the sources said.

She has also given her support to the demand for the inclusion of the Keibul Lamjao National Park in the lists of the World Heritage Sites, sources said.

Betraying her passion for animal rights activism, the Union Minister is reported to have revealed a keen interest on the plight of the Sangai and assured to mount pressure on the Union government to safeguard the endangered deer and its habitat by setting up a National Sangai Project.

Informing the State BJP delegates that she had all the relevant documents about the Sangai, she vowed to extend the best possible help in protecting and preserving the endangered deer which is a rare species and quite valuable, the sources added.

Besides that she is reported to have lauded the women of the State for making the nation proud in the fields of Arts and Culture, and Sports. She has appreciated the talent of the women of Manipur, the sources said.

She has expressed a desire to scan the Keibul Lamjao National Park at Moirang and to monitor and evaluate the schemes and projects under the State Social Welfare department.
