IMPHAL, April 15: Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup, organised a one day legal awareness programme on gender violence at the Ima Keithel No. 1, first floor, sponsored by Manipur Legal Services Authority , Imphal West. Human Rights Law Network, joint director, Premlata; advocate Chongtham Noren Singh; additional SP (Prosecution) Imphal West Y. Victoria; advocate S. Manorama Devi and chairperson, Imphal Municipal Cooperation, A Nimai Sharma spoke as resource persons about the increasing crimes against women and child in the State. Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup president, Y Ibeni Devi; Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup vice president, RK Sanahanbi Devi and Ngangbam Ningol Ibecha also shared the dais as presidium members.
`Phone relationship among strangers has increased the crime rate in our State. Women and children are vulnerable to such clandestine phone relationships, which often sparks into intimacy and they get duped later.` said ASP Y.Victoria.
Advocate Chongtham Noren Singh spoke on the various components of consumer rights under Consumer Protection Act 1986 and elaborated on food safety.
The resource persons cited various cases to inform the participants about rights, crimes, redressal and precautions.
`Alarmingly most of the crimes against women are committed by men in Uniform. In such cases victims are intimidated against seeking legal redressal. This is unfortunate that the people who are appointed to safeguard us are the ones who increasingly commit these crimes,` shared one of the resource persons who directly deals with victims.
