Jiribam contract lecturers warn of agitations

IMPHAL, Oct 9: The All Jiribam Contract Lecturers`™ Association has warned to launch agitations in case the concerned authorities fail to regularise the service of the contract lecturers of Jiribam.

A press statement of the association said its members have been suffering for quite a long time due to failure of the government to provide salaries for long time even extending to more than nine months, to extend their services, while the government continues to suppress them citing its financial difficulties.

It said some time back, a group of contract lecturers of Jiribam had met both the Education minister Moirangthem Okendro and local MLA Th Debendra Singh at the latter`™s Imphal office chamber.

It said during the meeting, the Education minister had assured the visiting contract lecturers that the government will regularise the services of all contract lecturers of the State before January 2016 as a New Year gift.

Not only this, but the minister had also called up the concerned officials and ordered them to immediately issue service extensions of the contract lecturers so that the visiting contract lecturers could take them back with them, it said.

However, the assurance have not been acted out till date, it lamented.

Stating that the long wait has exhausted the contract lecturers, the statement urged the concerned authorities to regularise their service at the earliest with the aim of encouraging quality education in the State.

In case of failure to issue the regularisation order at the earliest, the contract lecturers will launch agitations with support from civil organisations, student bodies and locals of Jiribam, it warned.
