Written test successful candidates of constable recruitment test warn of launching 24-hour strike

IMPHAL, December 18: The Manipur Police Constable Viva Voce Demand Committee of Imphal West and Thoubal districts has warned to launched a 24 hour general strike in the two districts if the authorities concern fails to meet their demand.

Convenor of the committee, M Deven Singh said in case the government fail to conduct the viva voce by December 23, the committee will launched a general strike in the two districts from 5pm of December 23 till 5pm of December 24.

Speaking at a press conference today at the Manipur Press Club, Deven said candidates of the Manipur Police Constable had participated in the Physical Eligibility Test for the recruitment of 2000 constables which was conducted on March 17, 2013 while the written test was conducted on June 16 of the same year.

He said altogether 10,287 candidates were cleared for the Viva Voce test.

On September 18, Viva Voce test was initiated for candidates of Ukhrul, Chandel, Bishnupur, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Imphal East, he added.

However, before the Viva Voce for the candidates of Thoubal and Imphal West districts was conducted, three candidates who had already cleared the written test filed a writ petition before the Manipur High Court bearing petition no 861 of 2015 charging the recruitment authority that the vacant seat and the number of Viva Voce eligible candidates is not under the proposed proportion of 1:3, he added.

He also said that the court has given two-month time for the authorities to look into the issue and on December 21, the said two months expired.

Although the two-month has already ended, Viva Voce for the two districts with the most number of candidates is yet to be conducted, he said.

He warned to launch the 24 hour general strike if in case the Viva Voce is not conducted within the time frame.

He also said that during the general strike essential vehicles, media and those related to religious rituals will be exempted.
