KSO and ANSAM warn of indefinite highway blockade

IMPHAL, January 29: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO GHQ) and the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) have in a joint statement warned to launch an indefinite highway bandh from midnight of February 1 in view of the failure from the government of Manipur.

The bandh will not affect inter-district passenger vehicular movement, according to the release. However, vehicles carrying goods and commodities on the Highways will not be allowed under any circumstances, it said.

It further said that the government has failed to give any positive response to their memorandum which was submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur on December 14 2015 demanding regularisation of the hill districts contract basis teachers’ of 2006 batch in the directorate of Education (S).

The government has neglected to look into the issue of acute shortage of teachers in the hill district schools and to bring justice to the downtrodden teachers within the set deadline, it said.

It said the contract basis teachers were appointed and engaged by the directorate of Education (S) hills following the signing of a MoU signed between the Government of Manipur and ATSUM in the year 2006 to cater to the educational needs of the schools of the hill districts.

In a backdrop of government apathy towards the long pending issue, a series of joint representation of KSO (GHQ) and ANSAM have been made as reminders to the government of Manipur to take up necessary actions, it said.

In spite of the genuine approaches, the government of Manipur has turn a deaf ear and seems reluctant to bring a concrete solution, said the release.

In this connection, the two organisations are compelled to launch indefinite highway bandh beginning from midnight of February 1 onwards on all national highways in the State.

In the light of these facts, we solicit cooperation from the general public as this movement calls for collective future, said the release signed by Seiboi Haokip general secretary KSO HQ sand Education secretary ANSAM AC Thotso.
