IMPHAL, February 27: A group of around 20 Congress legislators is said to have submitted a written call to the Chief Minister this late evening seeking an emergency Congress Legislature Party meeting on the issue over the suspension of five Imphal East commandos in connection with the Naga Students Federation row.

According to reliable sources, the MLAs have urged the CM to call the meeting by Sunday.

It is also learnt that the MLAs will be demanding sacking of Home Minister Gaikhangam from his post over the issue and to revoke immediately the suspension of the five personnel.

The source has also said that if in case the meeting is not called by Sunday, the dissident group has decided to stage a demonstration at the gate of the State Assembly and boycott the day’s sitting on Monday.

The dissident group is said to be confused by the Home minister’s decision to suspend the five personnel, even after he had declared in the Assembly that the five were nor involved in any harassment of the NSF leaders, it said.

According to the source, the dissident group is said to be angered by the fact that when they appealed to the Home minister to suspend the police personnel involved in the death of Robinhood last year, the Home minister had denied the request citing that suspending the personnel will hurt the moral of the whole force.

It is also learnt that the dissident MLAs had hold an emergency meeting today at one of the MLA’s residence on the issue.
