Herojit fails to turn up before court

IMPHAL, Feb 2: Manipur Police Head Constable Thounaojam Herojit, one of the main accused in the BT Road killing case failed to appear before the court of district and sessions, Imphal West at Cheirap Court Complex here today.

The other eight accused were produced before the court at around 11:30 am.

Defence counsel S Lakhikanta Singh prayed before the court to grant 10 days-time for production of Herojit citing failure to communicate with him.

The court later fixed February 20 as the next hearing of the case.

It may be mentioned that Thounaojam Herojit had confessed before a group media persons to his part in the broad daylight killing of an unarmed militant suspect, Chungkham Sanjit on July 23, 2009, in the crowded B.T. Road, which was met with unprecedented interest in both Manipur as well as in the rest of the country.
