‘MLA Local Area Dev Fund for Heirok A/C deprived’

IMPHAL, February 7: Local Area Development Fund worth crores of rupee for Heirok constituency for the last many years has not forthcoming due to authoritarian style of working of the local MLA, State Councillor of BJP Heirok Ningthoujam Diten has alleged.

Diten who is also a social worker was speaking at inaugural function of a newly built wooden bridge ‘’Samhoubi Thong’’ at Sikhong Muslim village in Thoubal district today.

Speaking as chief guest, he said that Heirok is one of the backward constituencies with unavailability of potable water in the area, which the authorities concerned neglected.

Due to water scarcity in paddy fields in the constituency, farmers have been reeling under intense hardship mainly financial matter. The farmers had to wait for rainfall to augment agricultural activities in absence of basic facilities, he lamented.

He regretted that implementation of the ambitious MGNREGA in the constituency has miserably flopped.

Claiming that the local MLA in cahoots with councillors has misappropriated funds sanctioned for urban housing scheme in municipality areas in the constituency, he said that time has come to teach a befitting lesson to the local MLA for duping the public.

Diten declared that he in association with the Labour Department will ensure labour card certificate for workers and poor people of the constituency.

He explained that the card covers education for poor students, healthcare reimbursement by the government and scholarship for pursuing medical and engineering courses.

During the function, the State Councillor of BJP Heirok distributed labour card certificate to 48 beneficiaries.

Retired headmaster of Sikhong Khunnou LP School Md Obedulah; Professor in Manipur University Dr K Bheigyachandra and social worker from Lourembam L Ningthemton were present at the inaugural function as president and guests of honour respectively.
