IMPHAL, March 31: Konthoujam MLA K Sarat today refuted allegations from the Konthoujam Mamang Tribal Women Society that his escorts had used foul language against some women, and said the allegation is baseless and could be a political conspiracy on the behest of his rivals.

Speaking to media persons at his residence today, Sarat said on March 26, around 9pm he along with his escort team were returning home and had passed by some women in traditional attires.

The next evening when he and his team was about to go to a programme held in his constituency, some women came to his residence and charged his escort personnel of using foul languages against the women, he added.

Refuting the allegations, the MLA said none of his escorts had behaved in a foul manner or uttered a single word to the women group.

He said none of his escorts have ever behaved rudely or wrongly against the people of the constituency.

He said that the women must have heard the escorts speak among themselves as his vehicle passed them and taken the escorts words to be addressed to them.

There are also chances that the allegation is part of a political conspiracy to defame him, he said and further hinted that the political scenario in the constituency is not very friendly.

Sarat said such misunderstanding could have been amicably solved through dialogue; however, the demand to hand over the escorts to the people is very unfortunate, he added.

Meanwhile, later in the evening, the KMTWS also called a press conference at the Manipur Press Club condemning the attitude of the MLA’s escort team.

KMTWS secretary Chingdinlui Kamei said the association complained about the incident to the MLA’s wife the next day, but she failed to take the issue seriously.

Condemning the attitude of the MLA’s wife, she demanded the concerned authorities to look into the issue at the earliest.
