State all set for President’s Khongjom Day visit

IMPHAL, April 22: The State government has set all preparations for tomorrow’s Khongjom Day observation during which the President of India Pranab Kumar Mukherjee will inaugurate the Khongjom mega Tourist Centre before handing it over to the people of Manipur.

A security blanket has also been set for the President’s visit tomorrow.

Security has also been tightened in the three districts of Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal in view of the President’s visit tomorrow.

As part of the elaborate security arrangement, a cordon and search operation was conducted this morning ar 4 at Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai, during which seven suspicious individuals were picked up, and later released after proper verification.

Simultaneously, another combing operation was also conducted at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, during which a person was picked up and released later after proper verification.

Three rooms of the Special Ward, JNIMS and specialists doctors have also been reserved as part of the preparation ahead of the President’s visit.

Meanwhile, the President will arrive at the Imphal Airport in an IAF BBJ plane at 2:10pm. At 2:20, he will depart for Khongjom in Thoubal district by an IAF 8/17 helicopter.

After attending the function, the President will leave from Imphal Airport in the same aircraft.
