Imphal River crosses danger level

IMPHAL, May 21: Subsequent upon incessant downpour in the last two/three days, water levels of most of the rivers draining Manipur valley have risen dramatically and the water level of Imphal River has crossed the danger mark. Meanwhile, one more sluice gate of Imphal River has been opened. Water levels of many rivers namely Imphal River, Iril River, Lilong River, Nambul River and Nambol River have risen to alarming levels. Water level of Imphal River has crossed 785.90 metres and this is above warning level. Nambul River has also crossed danger level at 781.975 metres and Nambol River is flowing above flood level at 773.175 metres. Lilong River, Iril River and Thoubal River have reached 778.250 metres, 781.20 metres and 773.175 metres respectively, informed an official source in IFCD. Average rainfall recorded in the State at different places were 28 mm at Kangpokpi, 5 mm Saikul, 43 mm at Litan, 3 mm at Raj Bhavan and 3.5 at Lamphelpat. Heavy rains are lashing Kangpokpi at the time of filing this report. Taking due note of the incessant rainfall, gate number three of Ithai Dam has been lifted up to 2.5 metres.
