IMPHAL, May 6: The Mao Council under the aegis of the United Naga Council in collaboration with the All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Mao Students’ Union (MSU) organised the 6th commemoration of the martyrdom of Neli Chakho and Dikho Loshuo today at martyrs Park, Mao Gate.

During the commemoration the gathering comprising of Naga leaders, family members, intellectuals collectively reaffirmed that the sacrifice of two students will continue to inspire them and strengthen in their struggle.

Honouring the late students, a wreath laying ceremony at the burial sites of the two ‘martyrs’ by the gathering was also held.

In his speech UNC president, Gaidon Kamei, alleged that both Manipur and Union Government has every intention to abolish the Naga’s and its determination to reunite under one roof.

The clamping of AFSPA-1958 by the Government of India, a political agenda of the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, is the testimony of the intention, he corroborated.

Kamei mentioned that in the year 1997 ceasefire was signed between GOI and NSCN-IM but when it was about to finalise the Naga issue, neighbouring communities tried to sabotage it.

The Manipur government under the leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy CM, has been relentlessly trying to suppress the Nagas in many instances.

It had kill two Naga student leaders on May 6th, 2010 who were trying to protect the integrity of Naga at Mao Gate, and inflicted injuries to many others in the firing carried out by CDOs and IRB.

In another incident two persons were also shot down by the state security personnel at Ukhrul on August 30th 2014, besides it had introduced three anti tribal bills on August 31st, 2015 and two anti Naga resolutions, he said.

Despite the continued onslaught by Manipur Government the Nagas will not compromise with their aspiration, said Kamei.

Orchestrating the message of unity amongst the Naga, Naga HOHO President Chuba Ozakum said that dissection policy of the colonial masters which is being adopted by the current government will be taken as war against Naga.

Reacting to the statement made by Manipur’s Chief Minister and other Meitei leaders not to sacrifice an inch of Manipur’s land, the Nago Hoho president questioned who is clamming for their land?

He mentioned that the Naga will not recognise the boundary of two states before adding that “We are here to defend our land.”

Naga in the process of bringing political settlement have gone to many difficult faces, he said adding that it need to focus on bringing a concrete unity to achieve the ultimate goal.
