IMPHAL, May 31: In support of the demand for conversion of the three ILPS bills passed in the Assembly to protect the indigenous people, women vendors of Thoubal Market blocked Thoubal Bridge and Wangjing Bridge along Imphal-Moreh Road on National Highway-2 today.

The protestors even stopped the MLA of Khangabok constituency O Landhoni and her escort personnel from passing the Thoubal Bridge. A convoy of Assam Rifles coming from Kakching side was also not allowed to pass the way.

The women vendors shouted slogans, “Implement ILPS in Manipur”, “Save indigenous people”, “Release all the arrested students” etc.

Later, a team of district police led by Additional SP (Ops) N Madhunimai came in and tried to pacify the women protestors.

Endorsing the demand, women vendors of Wangjing Keithel and students of Progressive English School Lamding also came out and blocked the national highway.

Timely arrival of police foiled any untoward incident. However, shops and business establishments at Thoubal and Wangjing Markets remained closed during the agitation.
