IMPHAL, Jun 2: Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) has threatened to impose economic blockade on NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) if their five arrested executives are not released at the earliest.
Speaking at a press conference held at their Sega Road Konjeng Hajari Leikai office, KSA HRD secretary Angouton Khuman said that they are also planning to stage a mass rally on the issue.
He said that they are extremely disappointed that the arrested students have not been freed although a week has passed.
Saying that KSA has received complaints of bakery items, ice creams and tea having no expiry dates being sold, Angouton further said that KSA would soon launch a drive to check these irregularities.
Taking part at the press conference, KSA president Moirangthem Lakhsman flayed the Government for detaining the students although the persons involved in common salt adulteration had been freed.
Maintaining silence on the issue is an example of Government’s disrespect to the people’s collective voice, he said.
Lakhsman said that Okram Henry’s clarification to the media was nothing but just a testimony of his direct involvement in the issue.
He said that KSA had already made the report of his meeting with the women supporters of KSA at his residence public.
He said that it is unfortunate that Henry has been playing vote bank politics with the issue.
Saying that as part of the ban announced earlier, KSA volunteers had closed PCTC oil pump, Lakhsman said that they would close the oil pump permanently if it is found opened.
He further said that the owner of Shanti Agency, Thangal bazar must come to KSA office by 1 pm of June 4 to settle the issue of adulteration of Tata Salt.
Lakhsman said that they would permanently ban the agency if he fails to turn up within this given time.
