IMPHAL, Jun 8: The 15th Great June Uprising Unity Day-2016 Observation Committee has appealed to the all organisations not to impose any form of disruptions including bandhs, blockades or general strikes on June 18 or its previous days.

Speaking to media persons at AMUCO office, the committee chairman Johnson Elangbam said that the observation of the Great June Uprising Unity Day is one of the most important and biggest observation in the State.

He elaborated, the day’s commemoration aims to protect the State’s territorial boundaries, integrity and create communal harmony in the State.

He further appealed to the organisations concerned to suspend the 10-day long economic blockade along the national highways in view of the coming Great June Uprising Unity Day observation.

Such blockades will hinder movement of the delegates coming from outside the State as well as the hill areas to participate in the observation, he asserted.

He continued during the observation several experts will speak on the ongoing peace talk between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India and whether it would affect the territorial integrity of the State either directly or indirectly.

Johnson also sought a clarification from the government on the issue for formation of a pan-Naga body in the North East region as was reported in some regional dailies in recent times.

It may be mentioned that the JAC against the Anti-tribal Bills along with the Outer Manipur tribals Forum has imposed a 10-day long economic blockade starting from June 9 midnight till June 19 midnight.
