Women Wing bans non-local hawkers, labourers

IMPHAL, May 31: The JCILPS Women Wing has banned non-local people from hawking things on streets and working as labourers. The Women Wing has also banned renting out rooms/houses to non-local people. Speaking to media persons at the JCILPS office at Road Konjeng Hazari Leikai today, JCILPS Women Wing convenor Thongam (O) Apabi made an announcement to this effect. Non-local people can resume their normal activities only after the three pending Bills are converted into Acts. If anyone defies the ban, he/she should be held accountable for any untoward incident resulting thereof, Apabi said. But this does not mean non-local people cannot move around forever, she added.

All preparations have been made to enforce the public curfew announced by JCILPS on non-local people on June 1 and 2 as well as the curfew in Government offices from June 1 to 3 and the public curfew at Khwairamband including Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar on June 1.
Apabi also appealed to all the people to support the mass protest including forming human chains and rallies scheduled on June 1.

She also condemned the alleged excesses committed by police on young students while the Government is still reluctant to go to New Delhi to pursue the three Bills passed last year in order to protect all the indigenous peoples of the land. She added that they would undertake different forms of protest demonstrations until the collective aspirations of the people are fulfilled. Meanwhile, JCILPS Students Wing has condemned declaration of holiday at all educational institutions located in the valley.

Students Wing convenor Oinam Nandababu appealed to all the people to carry out mass protest movements in line with the announcement made by JCILPS. He also demanded unconditional release of all the 30 students arrested by police in the course of the ongoing movement. Of the 30 students, 14 are currently detained in Langthabal Juvenile Home, 14 others in Thangmeiband Juvenile Home, one at Takyel Juvenile Home and the remaining one in jail. He also demanded release of the five KSA activists arrested by police for checking adulteration of common salt by two non-local traders.

Meanwhile, Tiddim Road was blocked today near Tulihal Airport demanding enforcement of ILPS or a similar mechanism in Manipur. Similar bandhs were also enforced at Uripok, Naoremthong and Pangei.
