A two-day National seminar on “Entrepreneurship and Skill Based Education for Global Competition” was kick-started today at the Centenary Hall, Manipur University.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MU Vice-Chancellor Prof HNK Sharma, MU School of Social Sciences Dean Prof N Lokendro, Prof Azhar Kazmi of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia, Babina Group of Companies Chairman cum Managing.
Director Dr Th Dhaballi, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Dr Kh Palin and MU Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Director Prof Ch Ibohal attended the inaugural session as presidium members.
Speaking at the gathering, Govindas stated that there are around seven lakh unemployed people but the figure can be reduced to just two lakh within two years if the unemployed people are given skill development trainings on different fields.
The problem of unemployment among educated people can be also be reduced considerably if they are imparted skill development trainings.
Govindas also underscored the growing need for setting up an industrial academy in the State.
Keeping in view the need for skill development, the Government has set up industrial estates in all the nine districts of the State. If the people of Manipur should capitalise on the Government of India’s Act East Policy and the new found global interest in the State, people, particularly youth should be skilful in different fields, Govindas asserted.
Prof HNK Sarma too highlighted the importance of enhancing skill so that people of the State are not left out from the fast changing global economic scenario.
Prof Azhar Kazmi remarked that Manipur has all the potential for economic development and prosperity.
Emphasising on the need for skill development, Prof Azhar Kazmi asserted that finding a job will never be a problem for a skilful man/woman.
