HDFC branch looted of Rs 1 crore, blurred CCTV footage fails to offer lead

IMPHAL, July 4: A gang of robbers armed with sharp weapons seized a double barrel gun from a bank guard, overpowered the staffs inside using the gun and looted the bank of cash and gold worth more than Rs. 1 crore in Thoubal district this evening around 5.

A reliable source said around six-seven robbers came with sharp weapons like knives and overpowered the HDFC Bank, Thoubal branch guard and seized his double-barrel gun. The bank is located near Thoubal DC Complex in Athokpam Awang Leikai.

Using the gun seized from the guard and the knives, the gang barged into the bank and overpowered the six staffs who were present inside the bank, according to the source.

The assailants escaped from the scene with the loot in a Honda City car, the source informed.

Another source also informed that despite the CCTV cameras capturing the crime scene, the footages are blurred and cannot yield any concrete clues on the identities of the unknown assailants.

However, a police team led by Thoubal (Cdo) OC along with other officers are checking the CCTV footages to identify the assailants.

A strong team of Thoubal police and commandos also conducted a massive manhunt in the Nepra charangpat area of the district.
