NSCN-K claims Senapati blast; protest rally to be held

KANGPOKPI, July 11: Amidst protest and condemnation, the NSCN-K Shepoumaramth Region has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast that occurred at Senapati DC Office on July 10 at around 7:50 pm.

No one was injured in the blast, however, a room allotted to the Planning Department and concrete wall were shattered.

According to Hillson Pou, Information and Publicity-in-Charge, NSCN-K Shepoumaramth Region, the blast was to protest the negligence of its voice and honor those who sacrificed for the cause of the Naga sovereignty.

He sought cooperation of individuals, organizations and departments in its endeavor.

It may be mentioned that a four-member team of forensic experts from Manipur Police arrived at the blast scene and collected evidences to investigate into the blast.

A sniffer dog of 35 Assam Rifles was also used to detect clues in the explosion. Senapati Police also cordoned off the DC office complex for the day.

According to police sources, intensive investigation into the incident had already begun after the blast and a case was lodged under FIR No.14 (7) 2016 SPT-PS U/S 307/427/506/511/34 IPC & 5 Exp.Sub.Act.

Meanwhile, an emergency joint meeting of apex bodies including NPO, SDSA, SDWA and five tribe Hohos was held today to discuss the unfortunate incident.

The house resolved that a mass protest rally will be held on July 12 at Senapati DHQ and informed all concerned village leaders and villagers within the DHQ area to participate in the rally.

All shop establishments and normal activities will be halted during the protest rally, it further resolved.

The joint meeting also strongly condemned the incident stating that such cowardice act and anti-social element cannot be tolerated by peace loving general public and that it is not a part of the Naga’s culture.

The bomb attack on the DC office, which is an important system in the public administration, is a direct challenge to the people of the district, the gathering agreed.

While asking the group or individual responsible for the blast to come out clean before the public and clarify at the earliest, the meeting also decided not to allow any group involved in the incident to function or base at Senapati district.

It urged the concerned authorities to immediately investigate, book and punish the culprits befittingly.
