Nungei villagers go back home

IMPHAL, Jul 5: People of one Nungei village who were taking shelter at Lilong Chajing and Iram Siphai went back to their village today.
Following a series of unwanted incidents since the last couple of months, a tense situation erupted between two communities at Nungei. Subsequently, people of one village left their homesteads and took shelter at Lilong Chajing and Iram Siphai since last Saturday.
Nonetheless, Chief Minister O Ibobi convened a joint meeting of the two confronting groups at his office yesterday and the two sides came to an understanding.
Before going back to their village, Nungei people held meetings at Lilong Chajing as well as Iram Siphai.
At Iram Siphai, the meeting was jointly presided by Relief Committee convenor Sorokhaibam Rome, JAC Nungei president Thiyam Yaima and Wangoi Nagar Panchayat Councillor Pribarta and Meira Paibi leaders. Relief materials donated by different sections were handed over to the displaced people of Nungei before they went back to their homesteads. People who were taking shelter at Lilong Chajing too went back to their village . CRPF personnel have been deployed at Nungei to avert any unwanted incident.
