State level orientation programme for journalists organised

Imphal 23 Sept : Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (MGNREGA Monitoring Cell), Government of Manipur has organised State level orientation programme for journalists on MGNREGA and its implementation today at the conference hall of Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul on 22nd Sept 2016.

The inaugural function of the orientation programme was graced by Shri J.C. Ramthanga, IAS Principal Secretary, RD and PR, Government of Manipur ; Shri Wangkhemcha Shamjai, President AMWJU and Dr. K. Shyamsunder Singh, MCS Director, RD and PR, Government of Manipur as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.

In the technical session of the orientation programme, Aribam Robindro Sharma, Editor Poknapham Daily was the moderator and three resource persons presented power point presentations on different topics.

On the topic, ‘Implementation of MGNREGS and Preparation of LB Fy-2016-17 by Gram Sabha’; ‘Enhancing delivery of payments through direct benefit transfer (e-FMS) and monitoring through GEO-MGNREGA’ and ‘An introduction on technical training manual for MGNREGS’ by State Nodal Officer, IEC (MGNREGS), RD and PR, Government of Manipur, Kh. Ibochouba Singh, State Nodal Officer, MIS ( MGNREGS), RD & PR Government of Manipur, A. Dayananda Sharma and SLM, MGNREGA Cell, Manipur L. Ramesh Singh respectively gave the presentations.

While giving the presentation, Kh. Ibochouba Singh said that after 10 years completion of launching of MGNREGS, it was amended for 18 times. Earlier, the approach of MGNREGS was only giving job to villagers but now the approach has changed towards people’s livelihood. With the pace of time, the works of the scheme can be divided into individual and community work. 60 percent of the MGNREGS work should be agricultural related works.

The speakers including the News editor AIR Imphal, Dr. A. Ibomcha Sharma said that the role of media is very crucial when trying to achieve the target and objectives of the scheme and appealed to media fraternity for writing not only the ugly sides of the scheme but also the success stories of MGNREGS. They also said let the scheme be the pride of the nation, state, districts and the villages.
