Minister commits to complete sewer project soon

IMPHAL: Along with completion of construction of the treatment plant, its primary and secondary sewer, the Imphal sewer project, which is being taken up under a French agency since 2004, will be completed within 2/3 months, informed IFC minister L Dikho.The minister along with PHED chief engineer L Swamikanta, SE N Gambhir and EE H Ibotombi assessed progress of work of the sewer project along RIMS road and Thangmeiband Watham Leirak on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inspection, Dikho informed that commissioning of sewer project is ultimate desire of the people and it is the duty of the government to do the needful.

He further informed that 90% of work on the treatment plant, pumping station (both electrical and mechanical) and primary sewer network have been completed, and the work for home connections is underway.

With some of the pipes suffering damages due to the earthquake last year, there were some problems in the connection process. However, the mending work is underway and hopefully will be completed in a couple of days, the minister expressed.He also regretted inconvenience caused to the public during the construction process.

Minister Dikho also appealed to the people to extend cooperation in every developmental work taken up by the government for speedy completion.The sewer project will definitely be a success in the state and will provide the best benefits. As of now the project will cover 11 IMC wards, he added.
