Probe ordered into defunct city CCTVs

THE COMMITTEE SHALL ENQUIRE INTO THE PROCESS OF TENDER, PROCUREMENT, INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING CCTVS AND FIND OUT LAPSES IF ANY; AND IDENTIFY THE PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH LAPSES AND
SUBMIT THE REPORT TO THE GOVERNMENT WITHIN 15 DAYS FROM FRIDAY.

IMPHAL: Following reports of non-functional Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in the commercial centres of the state capital ever since their installation and irregularities in procurement and installation of these CCTV cameras, the state government has decided to conduct an enquiry into the procurement, installation and commissioning of CCTV cameras.

According to a statement issued by additional chief secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu, the state home department had sanctioned a sum of Rs 8,01,54,775 under the plan 2009-10 and 2010-2011 for procurement of CCTVs for installation and commissioning at Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister Bungalow and market areas. However, after the home department received information that the installed CCTVs have not been functioning properly since their installation and there are irregularities in the procurement and installation of the CCTV cameras, the state government headed by the BJP decided to conduct an enquiry so as to ascertain all facts and to hold the officers responsible accountable for the lapses, if there were any, the statement added.

The statement further informed that Dr Suresh Babu on Friday, had issued an order to conduct an enquiry in this regard by an Enquiry Committee consisting of additional Director General of Police Promod Ashthana as Chairman, RD&PR secretary Sumant Singh and IGP Clay Khongsai as members. The Committee shall enquire into the process of tender, procurement, installation and commissioning of the said CCTVs and find out lapses if
any; and identify the persons responsible for such lapses.

The enquiry report shall be submitted to the government within a period of 15 days with effect from Friday. It may be mentioned that the CCTVs were installed as part of security measures.
