RIMS dental chair purchase case Warrant issued against an accused

IMPHAL, Apr 27: In a landmark judgement, Special Judge Imphal West has issued a warrant against one of the accused in RIMS dental chair purchase case for failing to appear before the Court yesterday.

The accused has been identified as Subhendu Mukherjee, proprietor of MS Mukherjee Enterprises, Kolkata.

Two prosecution witnesses of CBI namely Bhavesh Shah and Dr Kirankumar Aheibam deposed before the Court yesterday.

The trial is going in the Court under case number 11 of 2016 with reference to FIR number RC-6 (A) 2014 Imphal under Section 120-B/420/468/471 of Indian Penal Code and Section 13(2)/13(1) of Prevention of Corruption Act CBI versus Dr Sinam Sekharjit, Dr Rajiv Ratna, Elangbam Devendro, Haorongbam Shanti and Subhendu Mukherjee.

In his submission, Bhavesh Shah who is the prosecution witness number 1 stated that he worked as a senior service manager of Unicorn Denmark Limited from 2011 and is presently working at Chesa Dental Company since October, 2015.

He submitted that he was not aware about the participation of MS Mukherjee Enterprises in the tender selection process for purchasing dental chairs of RIMS and have no idea regarding the sale of any product to any company.

After cross examining his statements by counsels of the accused, he was discharged from the trial of the case.

Dr Kirankumar Aheibam stated that he worked at State Health Mission before joining RIMS in 2013 as an Assistant Professor attached to Conservative and Endodontics Department.
He admitted that nine dental chairs in the Department were found with minor defects though they are of standard quality.

The dental chairs were manufactured by Gnatus Company, he informed the Court.
He was also discharged from the trial of the case after his statements were cross examined by the defence counsels.

It may be mentioned that the charge against the accused was framed on January 24 last under Section 120-B of Punishment for Criminal Conspiracy and Section 471 of IPC and Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1) of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The accused in the case are former RIMS Director Dr S Sekharjit, Chief Account Officer cum Advisor Elangbam Devendro, proprietor of MS Mukherjee Enterprises Subhendu Mukherjee, Principal of RIMS Dental College Dr Rajiv Ratna and former Medical Superintendent H Shanti.
