TNL urges CM to back Framework Agreement, Naga integration

Ukhrul, Apr 11: Marking a significant change in the relationship between the State Government and the Tangkhul community, the Tangkhul Naga Long today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren urging him and his Government to back the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015.

Urging the Chief Minister and the State Government to support the Framework Agreement, TNL appealed to the State Government to recognise and honour the ‘legitimate rights of the Nagas to integrate all Naga inhabited areas under one administrative unit.’

The State Government was also urged to extend all possible support towards expediting the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process in the interest of all concerned. TNL demanded that the decision of the previous Government to create the seven new districts be rolled back as the district creation by passed the MoUs signed between the Government of Manipur and Naga civil society organisations and also violates Article 371 (C) of the Constitution.

The State Government was also asked to review the Cabinet decision to militarize the Nagas areas by deploying the proposed Highway Protection Force. Source: The Sangai Express
