Murder case of Lunglailu Rongmei Accused attacked at Court complex

IMPHAL, May 12: Enraged women folks attacked three family members accused in the Lunglailu Rongmei murder case when they were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East at Lamphelpat today morning.

The three family members are identified as Khunaijam Inaocha @ Zenith (40) s/o (L) Tomba, his mother Mema Devi (63) and sister-in-law Ashalata Devi (28) w/o Jiten of Chingmeirong Rongmei village.

Since early morning, a large number of womenfolks on getting information that the accused will be produced by Lamphel police converged at the Court complex.

Just when the three accused were brought to the Court, the irate women folks attacked two of the accused and pulled their hair and plucked them out of the scalp.

However, the prime accused (Inaocha) managed to get inside the Court. The situation was brought under control by police personnel deployed at the Court, who locked the main entrance door of the Court .

In his submission, Investigation Officer of the case submitted before the Court that finger prints of the accused were taken in CID Technical Unit during their seven days police custody remand.

He stated that the prime accused during the interrogation confessed to killing his wife after he sneaked inside their room during his school timing so that no one got suspicious of him.
Inaocha had revealed that out of anger he smothered his wife with a pillow and later slit her throat with a knife, the IO stated. In the light of the facts and circumstances of the case, the IO prayed before the Court for remanding the three accused to judicial custody till May 26 in order to help in the smooth progress of the investigation to find out the real facts without any possible interference form the accused.

He also prayed for segregating the prime accused during the judicial custody to facilitate recording of his statement under Section 164 of CrPC. The Court in its order mentioned that the three accused were arrested on suspicion and they were remanded to seven days police custody and the custodial interrogation was conducted by the IO of the case.

Stating that prima facie of the case is well established against the accused persons, which cannot be ruled out at the present stage, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till May 26. It also ruled that the prime accused be kept in segregation till his confessional statement is recorded.

The Court also directed the IO to take up necessary steps for recording confessional statement under Section 164 of CrPC within 48 hours.

When the three accused were brought out of the Court, the irate women folks tried to attack them again.

Police resorted to firing a smoke bomb to disperse them.
