IMPHAL | May 21 : Youth Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) today condemned the oil survey conducted at Khaidem Loukol, Imphal West district by Asian Oilfield Service Limited (AOSL) and urged that the exploration and survey process should be stopped immediately.

Speaking to the media persons at its Palace Compound office, T Shadishkanta Sharma, one of the executive members of YFPHR said that the oil survey authorised by Government of India was started on May 10 and it is carried out without taking prior consent of the local people and also without proper Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA).

He continued that the local people were threatened by blasting mine bombs for boring of oil and also leaving behind intoxicated waste of blasted bombs in and around the cultivable land. Their act is denying of human rights of the local people to have their say, he added.

The meeting was conducted by other three organisations which include Khangabok Development & Students Union, Human Rights Forum Manipur and Social & Youth Progressive Organisation Heirok A/C.

Thokchom Kiran Moirangcha, president of Khangabok Development & Students Union said that the developmental and employment promises made by the government are just for namesake and the existing developmental projects have also failed to serve its need.

‘We the youth cannot hand over our state to our elders as our elders are trying to sell our land just for their interest to the people who are not the native of our land’, he reiterated.
