Gold bars worth crores seized

The 12th Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) apprehended two gold smugglers carrying 10 Gold Bars each at Khudengthabi check post, Tengnoupal District on Saturday.

A statement released by the PRO IGAR, said that the Gold bars were intercepted around 3.15 pm from two occupants of a passenger vehicle (a blue coloured Maruti van (AS 19H 3364) moving from Moreh towards Imphal was stopped at Khudengthabi check post for checking.

In the first incident a passenger of the vehicle was moving suspiciously at the check post, it said adding that during checking of the individual Md Yashir, aged 15 years s/o Md Ziauddin of Liking Khunou, Lilong in Thoubal District, 10 Gold Bars weighing approximately 1.660 Kgs (approx cost 4980000/-) were recovered from both legs below the knee, hidden beneath the knee cap of the individual.

On further interrogation, the apprehended individual revealed the identity of another individual carrying gold biscuits.

In the follow up action, at 7 pm a suspected individual was stopped for checking and on checking the individual, Aslam Shah, aged 22 years s/o Najir Ahmad of Lilong Arapti, 10 Gold Bars weighing approximately 1.660 Kgs were recovered from him which were hidden inside his knee cap, it continued.

Both the apprehended persons  along with recovered gold bars were reportedly handed over to Moreh Police station.
