IMPHAL | Jan 7

Workshop cum production on Mahabharat Udyog Parba, a narrative art in Manipur began today at Khundrakpam Awang Leikai community hall in Imphal East.

The workshop was jointly organised by All Manipur Waree Leeba Association and Research Centre (AMWLA &RC), Khurai Soibam Leikai and Thanil Marup, Tangkham under the financial assistance of ministry of culture. It will continue till January 16.

Station director, All India Radio, Dilip Mayengbam said the state should take initiatives to set-up an old age policy for the artist. Manipur is famous for its culture and unique art form. To motivate the artist the state is giving awards and the state should increase the mode of awards for the welfare of the artist, he added.

He said story telling is a form of art which has a unique feature compared with other art forms of the state. In the story telling the narrator has to make the audience understand by changing his voice tones, gestures and others which is kind of creative form of art, he added.

The state has also many renowned artists but no policy for the artist has been taken yet, but in Assam lifetime achievement awards and pension schemes for the artist has been implemented. The state is neglecting the artist as the state is giving more emphasis on political pull and push for their benefit, said Dilip.

Likewise, for story telling electronic media is taking a main role, with the advantage of electronic media over print media it should be broadcast frequently.
