One shot dead, girl killed in mishap, one beaten to death

IMPHAL, Aug 22: At least three persons were killed in different incidents on Sunday.

A rifleman of the 4th Indian Reserve Battalion was found shot dead by armed miscreants this morning at Kongba Nongthongbam Leikai near a dispensary along the Kongba Keikhu IV road in Imphal east district under Porompat police station.

The victim is identified as one Md. Salauddin, 30 yrs, son of late Md. Iboyai of Lilong Hangamthabi Usoipokpi college gate,
The body was found this morning by the passersby at about 4:30 am, who informed the concerned police immediately. Later, the police retrieved the body and deposited it at the JNIMS morgue where a post mortem was conducted following which the body was handed over to the family members.

The police recovered one projectile and a empty case of pistol near the body.

The local people in and around the area where the incident took place said that they heard gun shots twice last night around 10:15 pm.

Family sources said that the deceased was survived by a wife and four children. The sources further said that at present he was posted at Koirengei Leikenthabi. Yesterday evening he was called out by unknown person on the cell phone and failed to return the whole night only to be found shot dead.

The motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained as no individual or organization has claimed responsibility.

It is worth mentioning here that the deceased Md. Salaudin was a former cadre of the PULF who surrendered to the state government in the year 2001.

An FIR has been registered for further investigation.

On other hand, a 21-year old lady was killed and another sustained injury in a road mishap that took place this afternoon 12:45 pm at Narangbam Patsoi area in between Taroijam and Salang in Imphal west district under Patsoi police station.

The deceased is identified as Salam Ibecha, daughter of S. Biren, while the injured victim is identified as Sinam Sila, 21 years, daughter of S. Ibomcha of Tharoijam Kyam Mayai Leikai.

According to police sources, the mishap took place when a speedy auto-rickshaw bearing number MN01-Q-6915 coming from Ngairangbam to load some bricks suddenly hit the ladies while they were on foot. After the accident the injured ladies were brought to the RIMS hospital, but Salam Ibecha succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital.

The police have registered an FIR.

In another incident, a person who was undergoing medical treatment at Shija hospital since August 20 owing to severe beatings succumbed to his injuries last night.

The deceased is identified as Keisam Bimol, 38 years, son of late K. Budhi of Langpok Mamang Leikai, Imphal west district under Nambol police station.
Today after post mortem at RIMS morgue the deceased was received by the family.

According to family sources, on August 20 night at about 8:30 pm the deceased was allegedly beaten up by three individuals identified as Konjengbam Tomba, K. Shantikumar, and K. Kula of the same locality, in front of their gate after a heated argument.

During the attack the alleged accused used bamboo staffs, said the sources. Moreover, the deceased’s son, daughter and wife who ran out to save K. Bimol were also beaten up badly by the assaulters.

A written complaint has been submitted to Nambol police by the family members in connection with the incident.

In the meantime, sources said that the three accused have surrendered to the Nambol police station yesterday.

Following the incident enraged locals of the area ransacked the residence of the main accused K. Tomba this evening. However, the timely intervention of police commandos foiled the attempts of the enraged locals to burn down the house of the other two accused.
