Asian Ambassadorial team in Imphal to study trade prospects

IMPHAL September 19: With view to assess developments related to trade relations between India and South East Asian countries under the former’s “Look East Policy” a nine member team of Ambassadors and high Commissioners landed in the state capital this evening by air from New Delhi on a three days maiden tour.
The team includes Dato Tan Seng Sung High Commissioner of Malaysia, Lt. Gen. Retd) Andi Muhaammad Ghalib Ammbasador of Indonesia, Thonghpanh Syachaphom Ambassador of Lao, Krit Kraichitti ambassador of Thailand, Kyl Thein, ambassador of Myanmar, Calvin Eu Mun Hoo High Commissioner of Singapore, Dato Paduka Haji Sidel Ali High Commissioner of Brunei, Md. Rabin Bin Basir Counselor of Malasia, Faizal Bin SHani Second Secretary of Malaysia, Leo Felix Hutabarat First Secretary of Indonesia, Mohammad Sabri Administrative and Tech. Staff of Indonesia, Boualyvone Phoxay, third secretary of Lao, Chamsai Menasveta First secretary of Thailand, Ye Minn Thein First Secretary of Myanmar and Asholi Challai Dy. Secretary M/O Doner government of India.
The most of the VVIP are accompanied by their spouses.
The team which landed at the Imphal Tulihal Airport this afternoon about 3:30 pm were given a warm reception by a team of State Planning Department officials.
They were then taken to the Hotel Classic. Later the visting team called on the chief minister, Okram Ibobi at his  office bungalow and discussed various proposals to be taken up as part of the “Look East policy’.
Many cabinet ministers and heads of department under state government attended, according to a highly placed official source.
As per the tentative tour programmes of the visting delgates, they will leave Imphal tomorrow to visit Moreh Trade Centre and Land Custom Centre and others.
Further after returning from Moreh the team will visit the British War Memorial at Dewlaland, Bir Tikendrajit Park and will leave Imphal for Aizwal on September 21.
Media persons spoke with one Kyl Thein, Ambassador of Myanmar during which he disclosed that the existing trade relationship established between the Myanmar and India has been growing day by day and both the countries have been considering further development of the trade.
He said the visit of the team of the Ambassadors and High Commissioner of the Asian countries into the tiny state of Manipur which has been choosen as a corridor for the proposed “ Look East Policy” of India will bring certain positive developments.
Strong security measures are being taken up by the police department along the NH 39 Imphal-Moreh sector and as well at Moreh in view of the visit by the dignitaries.
