Dailong gets 100 KW hydel project

IMPHAL, Sep 21: The Manipur Science and Technology Council inaugurated a 100 KW Micro-hydel project at Dailong Village, Tamenglong district.
The inauguration function was held on September 20 at Dailong Village ground, during which L.P. Golmei, IAS, principal secretary Power, graced the function as chief guest, H. Imocha Singh, IAS, commissioner, science and technology, as president and Member Secretary, MASTEC, Surendranath, Executive director, MASTEC, K. Panmei, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong, as guest of honour respectively.
While addressing the inaugural function the DC Tamenglong said that the Dailong Micro Hydel project is the first successful Micro Hydel project of 2×50 KW capacity in the state of Manipur. The project is implemented by the MASTEC, Imphal under the sponsorship of Department of Science and Technology, GOI and Department of Science and Technology of Manipur in the financing pattern of 90:10 ratio.
He said that the project was started on March 31, 2000 and commissioned on trial base during February, 2010.
Further he revealed that the Micro Hydel Project is viable alternative to the extension to the grid lines in rural/remote/hilly areas. To explore micro hydel project on large scale, it is necessary to develop cross flow turbine suitable for 2×50 KW and more for installation on the rivers and streams in the hills. Sicne there is a very god perennial source of water in the Zoulangpang River, Dailong Village, Tamenglong, cross flow turbine is an ideal option to meet the site conditions in the implementation of such schemes in the state of Manipur, said Pamei.
According to him the objective of installing such project are to design and develop the cross flow turbine packages. The package consist of turbines load controllers for a micro hydel station at Dailong Village. To study the problems of and set guidelines for installation maintenance and energy utilization associated with micro remote hilly terrains. Micro hydel units are environmental eco-friendly and are ideally suited to decentralized power generation.
The DC also maintained that the state should encourage the installation of micro hydel project in other potential sites in Manipur considering the power scarcity being faced.
The maintenance of the project will be done by the Dailong village. The installing capacity of the project is 2×50 KW, estimated power generation is 80 KW and the actual power generation on (trial base) 90 KW (45 KW each turbine).
