Four killed in Tamei road mishap

Imphal, Oct 6: Four persons were killed and 12 others sustained grevious injuries when a DI Tata, also known as 207 mini truck met with an accident at I.T Road near Tamei in Tamenglong district late this afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Madhu Singh of Sagolband Vijoy Govinda and Ibecha Devi of Nambol. Both of them were killed at the accident spot while two others succumbed to injuries later.
The other two who succumbed later are identified as one Rinita of Makola near Imphal Airport, a DIET staff at Tamei and one Namkhong of Kadi village, Tamei, Tamenglong.
The injured are yet to be identified and all of them have been evacuated at PHC Tamei by local people with the assistance of the personnels of the 10 Dogra Regiment.
Madhu Singh was a staff of DIET centre Tamei while Ibecha was a vegetable vendor.
Reports said that a Tamei bound passenger bus started from Imphal this morning broke down on the way. Some of the passengers hired the mini truck and headed for Tamei. At a landslide prone spot, some 7 kilometres towards Tamei, the heavily loaded mini truck got skidded and fell into a deep gorge killing the two persons and injuring 12 others.
The mishap reportedly occurred at around 4 pm. On hearing the news, people from Tamei headquarters rushed to the spot and carried out the evacuation work. Minutes later, personnel of the 10th Dogra Regiment stationed at Tamei equiped with all needed items arrived at the spot and swung into rescue operation.
All the 14 injured persons and the two deceased were brought to Tamei Primary Health Centre (PHC) where two more person succumbed to their injuries.
According to the reports received from Tamei, almost all the injured are in critical conditions.
Meanwhile, the people of Tamei have expressed their gratitude to the 10th Dogra Regiment for providing the vehicles and first aid items to the injured.
