London Olympics could be career ending contest: MC Mary Kom

IMPHAL, Sep 29:”I am not afraid of the opponents however the London Olympics might be my last tournament”, stated Padmashree MC Mary Kom while speaking to media persons at the venue of the felicitation programme organized by the Red shield Division today at Military Station Leimakhong.
Further interacting with media persons, the five times World Boxing Champion has asserted that it is not in her authority to react to the allegations made by L Sarita, in fact she has been only following the orders from the boxing federation of the country.

She further stated that the titles and championships that she has been able to win so far are for the country and not just for the state.
“Unbelievable”, was the word the pintsize pugilist used to describe the kind of incentives and welcoming that she has received from the state government so far.

She has also thanked the State government and the Assam Rifles for all the inputs and well wishes that she had received from them during her career as a pugilist.

Regarding her aim for the London Olympics, she has confirmed that she will aim only for the Gold.

On her future training and practice, she has stated that it depends on the federation, but she thinks the venue might be either in Patiala or Bhopal.
She has further wished the youths of the state especially the girls to rise up and achieve more than what she has achieved.

Maj Gen DS Hooda, VSM, the General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division has assured the champion assistance of Rs 2 lakhs by way of MCA project to promote her and the MC Mary Kom Academy located at Langol. The Red Shield had earlier given her similar encouragement last year where boxing equipment worth Rs. 4 lakhs was handed over to her on November 7, 2009.

Speaking on the occasion, the Major General has also appreciated the champion who was accompanied by her husband at the felicitation, by saying that the world boxing fraternity has rightly named MC Mary Kom as “Magnificent Mary”.

He has further appreciated her for her determination and relentless hard work. He has also appreciated the contribution of her husband Onlar, who had accompanied her at the felicitation programme.

Mary Kom also thanked the Red Shield Division for the ever willing support in promoting her and the sports activities in the state. The Red Shield Division has earlier helped and promoted various sports persons of the state including players of Polo, Pony breeders, Football players etc.
