State pays tributes to Indira Gandhi on death anniversary

IMPHAL, Oct 31: Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 26th death anniversary observed today as the Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-dedication Day).

The state level observation was held at the Parade Ground of 1st Bn. Manipur Rifles with the Chief Minister O Ibobi as the chief guest and power minister Phungzathang Tonsing as the functional president.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that Indira Gandhi was a visionary leader who had brought tremendous changes in the country. She had always rendered help and support to the poor and downtrodden people of the society.

Indira Gandhi was a prominent political figure who had worked selflessly to bring about peace and development in the whole world. She was also instrumental in creating the national integration of the country, Ibobi noted.

Ibobi further appealed to the people to follow the steps laid down by Indira Gandhi and take the solemn pledge to make the country strong and peaceful.

The observation was also attended by ministers, MLAs and officials of state government.

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also observed the 26th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi today at Congress Bhavan. The Congressmen led by MPCC president Gaikhangam paid floral tributes as a mark of showing respect and honour to Indira Gandhi.

Observation of Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-dedication Day) is also coming several other places of the state.
