Imphal, Nov 15(NNN): The 9 surrendered cops accused in the July 23, 2009 Khwairamband bazaar (Imphal market) fake encounter case where a former militant, Chungkham Sanjit and a civil woman, Rabina Devi had lost their lives, made their presence today before the court of district and session judge, Manipur East. The personal hearing, however, has been deferred by the court for December 18, 2010.
The nine accused who were chargesheeted by the CBI have been identified as city police OC, Y Munal and the then OC of market unit of Imphal West police commando, H Debendro, constable Th Herojit, rifleman Ng Toyaima of 5th Manipur Riffles attached to Imphal West police commando unit, constable W Binoykumar, havildar Th jagat of 5th Manipur Riffles attached to Imphal West police commando unit, rifleman Md Imran Khan of 5th Indian Reserved Battalion, head constable Oinam Kishore and constable Makon Kauchung Chothe.
The accused had been granted bails at Chirap Court, Imphal, on September 28 last after the CBI submitted the chargesheet on September 9 opening door for the investigation of the fake encounter of July 23 Khwairamband Bazaar.
According to CBI chargesheet, head constable Herojit has been accused of shooting and killing Sanjit by order from Inspector Debendra. Y Munal, the then OC of city police, Imphal West has been accused of destroying the evidence with the intention of defending Manipur police commando.
In today’s hearing, Y Munal has appealed that the chargesheet of the CBI is incomplete and had asked for the complete chargesheet of him. The court has thus deferred the personal hearing of the 9 accused for December 18, 2010, within which the incomplete chargesheet of Y Munal has also to be furnished before the court.
