Civic elections repolls peaceful

IMPHAL, Jan 5: Re-poll at three polling stations of the Municipal and Nagar Panchayat election conducted on January 3 last were peacefully conducted today after anti social miscreants had disturbed polling at the three polling stations on January 3.
Miscreants had on January 3 snatched the ballot box, ballot paper and electoral roll marked copy at 3/1 Chajing Kangjeibung Junior High School (W/W) and 3/2 Chajing Kangjeibung Junior High School (E/W) both of the Lilong Nagar Panchayat under Imphal West.
Meanwhile repoll at the 9/1 Rajendra Girls’ LP school of Lilong Nagar Panchayat Thoubal was conducted due to reported booth capturing at the polling station by unidentified miscreants on January 3.
The re-poll at the three polling stations were conducted from 8 am today and continued till 4 pm.
The re-poll at the 9/1 Rajendra Girls’ LP school of Lilong Nagar Panchayat Thoubal recorded 93.67 percent of voter turnout, while 96.90 percent voter attendance was recorded at 3/1 Chajing Kangjeibung Junior High School (W/W) and 93.37 percent voter attendance was recorded at 3/2 Chajing Kangjeibung Junior High School (E/W).
In the meantime, other than the stray incidents of booth capturing and snatching of the ballot box, ballot paper and electoral roll marked copy at the three polling stations no other untoward incidents were reported during the recently conducted 18 Nagar panchayats and 8 Municipal councils of the state.
Out of the 363 total polling stations of the 18 Nagar Panchayats and 8 Municipal Council, polling was conducted at 350 polling stations with the remaining 13 left out due to either candidates winning uncontested or failure of any intending candidates to filed their nomination.
In the Imphal East district, out of 31 polling stations, polling was conducted at 29 polling stations on January 3. Polling was conducted at 77 polling stations out of 85 polling stations in the Imphal West district. Bishnupur district conducted polling at 94 polling stations out of 96 polling stations. Thoubal district recorded polling at 150 polling stations out of 151 polling stations.
According to the sources, overall polling throughout the 350 polling stations is recorded to be 89.98 percent including the three re-polled polling stations.
In the January 3 election Imphal East recorded a total of 87.67 percent voter turnout percentage. Jiribam Municipal Council, Imphal East recorded 77.61 percent voter turnouts while Andro Nagar panchayat recorded 91.32 percent voter turnout. Lamlai Nagar Panchayat of Imphal East district recorded 94.10 percent voter turnouts. According to the Sources, Imphal West district recorded a total of 92.72 poll percentage which was the highest voter turnout amongst the four districts where polling was conducted. Wangoi Nagar Panchayat recorded the highest voter turnout in the district with 94.20 percent turnout. Sekmai Nagar Panchayat recorded 87.11 percent voter turnout. Lamsang Nagar Panchayat recorded 92.20 percent polling. Mayang Imphal Municipal Council recorded a 93.45 percent polling. In Lilong (IW) Nagar Panchayat 92.3 percent voter turnout was recorded by the state election commission. Samurou Nagar Panchayat recorded 93.69 percent while Thonkhong Laxmi Bazar Nagar Panchayat recorded 93.14 percent of voter turnout.
Thoubal district recorded a total poll percentage of 90.08. Heirok Nagar Panchayat recorded the highest in the district with a turnout of 95.7 percent. Lilong (TBL) Nagar Panchayat recorded 92.44 percent turnout. Thoubal Municipal Council recorded 92 percent. Yairipok Nagar Panchayat recorded 85.3 percent voter turnout. Sikhong Sekmai Nagar Panchayat recorded 92.1 percent voter turnout. Wangjing Lamding Nagar Panchayat recorded 90.4 percent voter turnout, Kakching Municipal Council recorded 87.51 percent turnout. Another 88.66 percent voter turnout was recorded at Kakching Khunou Nagar Panchayat. Sugunu Nagar Panchayat recorded 86.63 percent voter turnout.
Bishnupur district recorded a total of 89.48 percent voter turnout in the recent Municipal and Nagar Panchayat election in the state. The highest voter turnout in the district was recorded at Oinam nagar Panchayat with 92 percent. Nambol Municipal Council, Bishnupur Municiapl Council, Ningthoukhong Municipal Council, Moirang Municipal Council, Kwakta Nagar panchayat and Kumbi Nagar Panchayat registered 91.05 percent, 90.10 percent, 87.67 percent, 86.54 percent, 88.95 percent and 90.02 percent respectively.
The polling was conducted with five polling personnel attending to each polling station.
According to the State Election Commission, counting of the vote will commence from 8 am of January 7 at the DC office complex of each districts with the exception of Imphal East where two venues have been selected for the counting of the votes at the Imphal East DC office complex and Jiribam ADC office complex.
