COTA condemns mistreatment of colleagues in jail

IMPHAL Feb 10: The families of the teachers presently in judicial custody have resolved to undergo protests beginning February 15.
 A press release by Sirauddin Shah , convenor of Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) states that , jail authorities are mistreating the teachers at Sajiwa jail . The teachers are ridiculed and tried to be force fed, such behavior of the police is condemned, the release stated. Further, along with 13 protesting teachers arrested by the police today , 141 teachers are current in jail.
The families of the teachers along with COTA members held a meeting at Johnstone Higher Secondary School today and resolved to hold sit in protest from February 15 after the state government failure to acknowledge the demands of the teachers, the release said.
In another separate release by the JAC of the All Manipur Trade union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Govt. Employees Organization (AMGEO) , a meeting of the representatives of the JAC , COTA and Manipur Secretariat Service Association (MSSA) was held today. The meeting unanimously resolved to hold a joint meeting of all the members of the said organizations on February 24 to plan the future course of action for demanding the 6th pay scale in totality.
