TC continues to blast Cong; police arrests three workers of independent candidate

IMPHAL, Feb 11: The election campaign for the forthcoming bye-election of Konthoujam assembly constituency scheduled on February 14 will conclude tomorrow.
The three keen contenders of the bye-election organized hectic public meetings and gatherings all over the 28 polling areas of the constituency.
In public meetings held today in areas of Awang Jiri and Yurembam Awang Leikai, the Trinamool Congress lambasted the Congress Party for alleged misappropriation of local areas development fund and items of PDS.
Meanwhile, three active workers of independent candidate Kh. Ranjit were arrested by Police Commandos today from their residences.
The arrested persons are K. Bhupen, 31, son of Mani of Khumbong Bazar, K. Ibiton, 32, son of Yaima of Khumbong Makha Leikai, and T. Mitkhu, 18, son of Noren of Khumbong Makha Leikai.
The commandos arrested them today morning from their residences and till afternoon the whereabouts of the three remained unknown. However, they have been reported to be at Lamsang Police Station in the late evening Also, the proposed visit of Union Minister for Shipping and Transport, Mukul Roy, and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dinesh Trivedi, to the state today for election campaigning of Konthoujam bye-election has been cancelled suddenly.
The representative of election observer of Trinamool Congress, Paramjeet Kaur stated that Mukul Roy had to go to Kochi (in Kerala) for an urgent work along with the Prime Minister, while Dinesh could not come to the state owing to a high-level committee meeting of Trinamool Congress in New Delhi. The election observer of Trinamool Congress northeast in-charge and MP of Rajya Sabha, KD Singh also failed to come due to an illness.
Addressing a political meeting at Awang Jiri, the representative of Trinamool Congress, Paramjeet Kaur stated that the people of Konthoujam should realize the need for development in the constituency which has long been deprived by the Congress representatives for many years.
The Congress government has brought nothing except for underdevelopment and rampant corruption, she asserted.
The president of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress, Kim Gangte stated the Congress Party has misinterpreted the ideal definition of democracy. The actual definition of Democracy is the form of government of the people, for the people and by the people has turned into Democracy is the form of government “off the people, force the people and buy the people “.

She also said that the Congress Party is a family-based party unlike the Trinamool Congress which is dedicated to the cause of weak and downtrodden people of the society.Kim Gangte also appealed to the youths and women to join active politics to bring a real change in the society. She enjoined that the people of Konthoujam should serve as beacon light for the Trinamool Congress to bring development right from the grass-root level.
